Frequently Asked Questions
Find quick answers to common questions about our chapter, membership, events, and how to get involved with the Leon County Chapter of The Charmettes, Incorporated.
The Charmettes, Incorporated is a sisterhood of dedicated women committed to improving the quality of life within our communities through advocacy, education, service and support for cancer research.
Our guiding principles:
- Our commitment and dedication is to our organization, our members, and to our communities;
- We welcome, value, and support the diversity of skills, expertise, tools and networks of the strong African American women who make up our membership
- We recognize the importance and benefits of supporting the eradication of cancer and partnering with historically black colleges and universities and others who share our values and support our mission.
For more than 50 years, the Leon County Chapter’s signature event has been the Debutante Presentation and Ball. Since the inaugural presentation of 16 Debutantes in 1971, we have presented over 500 young ladies to the Tallahassee community and provided tens of thousands of dollars in scholarships.
These local high school students go through a year-long journey of philanthropic and community service projects, and are prepared to take their steps towards finer womanhood. They are academic leaders at their respective schools, members of various clubs and organizations including student government, honor societies and sporting teams. These young ladies also spend countless hours volunteering in the Big Bend area and have gone on to pursue diverse careers.
There are several ways to support the Chapter’s efforts that include donating directly to our organization, supporting our signature Debutante Presentation and Ball and fundraisers throughout the year.
We support local and national efforts that align with our organization’s mission to raise awareness and resources to support cancer prevention, treatment, and care. Some of these efforts include the annual Relay For Life event hosted by the American Cancer Society and Howard University Cancer Research.
